What to Pack for Your Farm Stay

We get asked this question a lot, usually in the week before arrival, in a slightly panicked email. Here is the definitive guide. Short version: less than you think.

The Essentials

Comfortable walking shoes that can handle uneven ground and mud. You will be walking on the farm, through gardens, up hillsides. Trainers or hiking shoes are fine. Sandals are not.

Layers. Sicilian weather is unpredictable, especially in the mountains. Mornings can be cool. Afternoons warm. Evenings chilly again. A light jacket you can tie around your waist is non-negotiable.

Sunscreen and a hat. The sun here is serious, even in autumn and winter. Protect yourself.

What You Do Not Need

Formal clothes. There is nowhere to wear them. Smart casual is the most dressed up you will ever need to be, and even that is a stretch.

A lot of toiletries. We provide towels, linens, and basic amenities. Bring your own if you have specific needs, but do not pack half your bathroom.

Entertainment. The farm, the landscape, the food, the people; there is more than enough to fill every hour. Bring a book if you want. Leave your laptop in the car.

I packed for two weeks. Used half of it. Wore the same three outfits the entire time and felt more relaxed than I have in years. - Tom, guest, 2025

The Nice-to-Haves

A camera, but not as a barrier between you and the experience. A notebook, if you like to write. Binoculars for birdwatching at dawn. And an appetite. Bring a big one. The food here will demand it.
